Calculate your maximum heart rate using four research-backed formulas. Enter your age to compare Fox, Tanaka, Gulati, and Gellish estimates.
The Fox formula (220 − age) is the most well-known but least accurate. Tanaka and Gellish are more evidence-based for the general population. Gulati was specifically developed for women. Use the one most relevant to your demographic.
Each formula was developed from different research populations and methods. They are all estimates — actual max heart rate can only be determined through maximal exercise testing.
Max heart rate is used to set training zones. For example, Zone 2 (fat burn) is typically 60–70% of max HR. Knowing your max HR helps you train at the right intensity for your goals.
